Anthropic’s Claude 4 Launches, Outperforming AI Competitors at Premium Cost
Anthropic has unveiled its Claude 4 AI model family after months of delays, setting new benchmarks in coding performance and autonomous task execution. The San Francisco-based company, valued at over $61 billion, claims its latest iteration surpasses rivals like GPT-4.1 and Gemini 2.5 Pro on SWE-bench coding assessments.
The new models feature extended capabilities, including seven-hour autonomous coding sessions and support for context windows approaching one million tokens. However, this performance comes at a steep price—Claude Opus 4 commands $75 per million output tokens, making it 25 times more expensive than open-source alternatives such as DeepSeek R1.
